I ACTUALLY feel fortunate to be writing this review.
After spending last weekend in the company of a group of beings who would kill you as soon as look at you.
Doctor Who Live - The Monsters Are Coming! set young pulses racing in the Manchester Arena as some of the Time Lord’s most notorious adversaries came to town.
This is a stunning show, full of eye popping spectacle, with a live band helping to whip up the excitement.
If you get the chance to see this, don’t hesitate. But I have to say it’s probably a little too scary for very young children. One little boy, sat on our row, voted with his feet when the interval arrived.
The mad/bad Vorgenson, played by Young Ones actor Nigel Planer, decides to play with fire by summoning the Doctor’s arch enemies as part of his own live show. We met everyone from the Daleks to the Cybermen, whose spectacular battle formed the breathless climax to a superb piece of live entertainment.
The current Doctor (Matt Smith) appeared via a huge film screen and asked for a bit of good old audience in his bid to stop the dangerous Vorgenson. While I’m starting to warm to Smith in the role, the biggest cheer of the afternoon came when the previous occupant of the Tardis, one David Tennant, appeared on film.
Doctor Who Live was out of this world - in more ways than one.
