SANDRA Scott was beaten up and spat at when she was at school.
Even now, this likeable 48-year-old, who has achondraplasia has to endure attitudes which are also deeply unpleasant.
Sandra, who lives in Timperley, said: “I get people taking photographs of me - that’s the latest thing. i get it when I’m out dog walking. I had an incident where a car of lads clocked me and the car stopped and they all hung out of the windows and laughed.
Then they came back to take photos. I don’t want other people to experience that sort of behaviour.”
These experiences have motivated her to start her own business, offering workshops at Trafford primary schools which aim to encourage “a positive attitude towards disabled people.”
Sandra said the workshops will be aimed mainly at pupils in three, four, five and six and said it’s important to educate youngsters from an early age - before they face the increased peer pressure of secondary school.
She was recently made redundant from her job at Stockport Cerebral Palsy Society where part of her role was to work as a disability quality trainer.
Sandra would like to hear from headteachers from across Trafford who would like to book a workshop, which are as varied as the subject of disability itself.
She will also teach youngsters how to read the braille alphabet and how to perform a song using British Sign Language (BSL). Sandra will also give pupils an exercise which gives them an idea of the reading difficulties faced by people with dyslexia.
