A SALE resident has branded the actions of flytippers who dumped sofas on the roadside just metres from an Altrincham waste centre as ‘disgusting’.
Darren Marsden, of Washway Road, has been reporting incidents flytipping across the borough for years but said that the scene he came across on Woodcote Lane earlier this month was the worst yet.
He said the sofas and rubbish had been dumped within 60m of Sinderland Road Household Waste Recycling Centre.
Darren thinks flytipping is a growing problem in the borough and that more must be done to tackle it.
“Whoever is doing this must stop and think of the environmental problems you are causing not to mention the bad name you are giving to your borough,” he said.
“One Trafford will only pick up rubbish on Trafford land so anything you throw away that is not Trafford will be left to rot bringing in rats and mice that will may end up in your own living room one day."
One Trafford delivers commercial and domestic waste and street cleaning services in the borough. They confirmed that the incident had been reported and the sofas had been removed immediately.
A One Trafford spokesperson said: “We are committed to listening and working with our customer who tell us how frustrated they are with the same recurring hotspots.
“Each year we collect and clear in excess of 300 tonnes of fly-tipped rubbish across the borough of Trafford.
“The council’s Be Responsible campaign aims to support communities in tackling issues of fly-tipping.
“When an incident of fly-tipping occurs it is investigated if it is on council land, with the landowner being informed if it is found to be on private land.
"The One Trafford Partnership urges residents not to fly-tip and blight their community, and also urges anyone who witnesses it to report it, including any useful information such as vehicle registration numbers.
“We want to people to love where they live and take pride in their area.”
