TRAMS and train services in Altrincham and Timperley suffered disruption this afternoon due to smoke from a tyre fire.
At around 3pm today, firefighters were called to a tyre storage unit on Skelton Road, near Navigation Road, following reports of a fire.
Crews found a pile of tyres in a shed were alight. Firefighters have got the flames under control and cleared the smoke. They will be on the scene for about another hour making the scene safe.
Transport for Greater Manchester confirmed that the smoke caused delays to Metrolink services between Altrincham and Timperley but said that the services are returning to normal.
It is thought that some rail services were also affected.
