A charity champion is one of six people from across the area to be appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant to the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester.

Lord Lieutenant Diane Hawkins, who is the representative of His Majesty King Charles III in the region, announced the appointments on Wednesday.

Debra Green, from Trafford, is one of six people from across the area to be appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant. Mrs Green is the founder of Redeeming Our Communities (ROC), a charity with its HQ in Partington but which works across the country to create safer, stronger communities.

The mother-of-four received an OBE for services to community cohesion in 2012 and now she is to support Mrs Hawkins by being her eyes and ears in the borough and by being in attendance at events when she is unavailable.

The others to be appointed to the role this week are Commodore Phillip Waterhouse from Bolton; Catherine Scott from Rochdale; Lindsey Forbes from Stockport; Mark Llewellin from Tameside; and Sadia Din from Tameside.
