A fire ripped through a caravan storage yard in Chadderton last night, Saturday, which residents said "sounded like bombs going off" while plumes of thick, black smoke filled the air.
At approximately 8.50pm yesterday, Saturday (August 17), several fire crews from across Oldham were called to reports of a large fire on Stock Lane.
Dozens of motorhome vehicles and caravans are stored at the large depot which sits around several other industrial units and warehouses.
Residents across Chadderton and even Royton said they could see black smoke erupting into the sky late last night.
Many more said they heard the sound of "explosions" which they described as "like bombs going off".
A woman said she thought the windows of her home "were coming through with the explosions".
She added: "It was a massive bang, I wasn't sure if it was an earthquake."
Video footage also shows the scale of the fire as several caravans on the site had caught alight.
A resident who keeps their motorhome at the site said dozens of caravans had "gone" and been completely destroyed.
Photographs of the aftermath this morning, Sunday, show there is a heap of burnt metal where a row of caravans once stood.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Shortly after 8.50pm yesterday evening (Saturday), six fire engines were called to a fire involving several caravans and motorhomes on Stock Lane, Chadderton.
"Crews worked overnight to extinguish the fire.
"Last night (Saturday), firefighters used three hose reel jets and a spray plate to extinguish the fire involving several caravans and motorhomes.
"They remain in attendance to monitor the premises and ensure the area is safe."
No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is not yet known.
