ECO-FRIENDLY games and an offer to make homes more efficient were just two of the highlights of a Davyhulme energy fun day.

The event, organised by Davyhulme Energy Saving Project (DESP), in partnership with Trafford Council and Greater Manchester Energy Saving Trust, was held at George Carnell Leisure Centre.

It welcomed Dysons Insulation Installers, which had staff on hand to provide advice on an offer to Davyhulme residents, negotiated by DESP members and subsidised by the council, meaning residents can have loft insulation and cavity wall insulation fitted for £50 each. There was also had a prize draw for one person to win free cavity wall insulation.

One resident who attended said: “What the volunteers from this group are trying to do for Davyhulme is really good. It has definitely got me thinking about how much energy I use in the home.”

Children were entertained by the Earth Arcade, a scheme run by charity Sticky Exhibits, and all games were made out of recycled materials and powered by light panels to charge the battery.

Games included bin waste invaders, wheelie bin bowling alley and pin ball. Home made cakes and drinks were on offer along with free plants to take away. The day was rounded off by a visit from the Mayor of Trafford, Cllr David Higgins.

Executive councillor Jonathan Coupe said: “Since this project was launched, I have seen it go from strength to strength and am really pleased with the commitment of the partnership and the interest shown by local people in Davyhulme.

“I would urge residents to consider the benefits of insulating their homes to help Trafford become a greener borough while saving them money at the same time.”

The group will be attending a free coffee morning at the launch of Trafford Council's Access Trafford service, in the newly-refurbished Urmston Library, September 26.
