JUNIOR golf has been given a great boost by the work of PGA pro James Salt.

Salt began his golf as a junior at Ringway where he achieved great success.

He then enjoyed a golf scholarship in America before returning to the local area and got his PGA qualification when an assistant pro at Ashton-under-Lyne.

He then returned to his Altrincham roots to pursue his coaching ambitions and has been working closely with Sport Trafford to deliver golf in schools both in and out of school hours.

He has taken on the role as head professional at Altrincham Golf Club working with Trafford Community and Leisure Trust with an emphasis of building a junior section like there used to be in the past.

He said: “I have taken the numbers of juniors at the club from two to 40plus with monthly competitions now a great feature being broken down into three sections depending on ability to cater for all standards.

“I also run two junior sessions on Saturday mornings – one for four-11 years and the other for 12-18 years.

“During the winter months these are run at the Golf School in Altrincham indoors to keep the players active and ready for the new season.

“The golf club is well on its way to achieving the coveted golf mark status making us one of the few clubs in the area to achieve it through the great development work being done to bring golf to the local community for both young and old.
