JOE Westhead from Urmston is immersed in Scouting.
The 14-year-old who attends UTC Media City, a college for 14-18 year-olds specialising in digital graphics, radio and TV broadcasting and other disciplines, is a leading member of the seven-strong Youth Production Team of Sale Gang Show.
Although Joe’s been involved in the last four gang shows, this is the first time there has been a full scale Youth Production Team.
He’ s also the Youth Council Adviser on Gang Shows for Greater Manchester West which includes Trafford.
“This involves attending other gang shows. I’ve even seen one in Edinburgh,” he said.
He has written an amusing sketch set in a cinema and has trained the youngest group, the six – eight year old Beavers of which he is a Young Leader/Explorer and the five – seven-year old Rainbows, to dance and sing in Singing in the Rain.
“They are really good,” said Joe.
As well as assisting with the sound effects, Joe is taking part in his own sketch and playing with the Scout Band in a Proms item.
The band play whilst the cast dance.
The show will include extracts from musicals including West Side Story.
“We haven’t forgotten Ralph Reader. The gang sing his numbers in the opening and closing scenes,” he said.
• The Gang show runs at Altrincham Garrick Playhouse from Tuesday, February 13 – Saturday, February 17. On weekdays it starts at 7.15 and there is a Saturday matinee.
Tickets, priced £10 for adults and £7.00 for children and concessions, are available from 07894 850 497 or online from tickets@salegangshow.com.
