IN keeping with recent tradition, the Club Theatre, Altrincham is presenting a different play for Christmas instead of the conventional pantomime, in an effort to keep the season fresh.

This year's offering is a play by the playwright and radio DJ, Mike Harding, better known to some as the Rochdale Cowboy'. Comfort & Joy is a play about a family gathering to celebrate Christmas where, goodwill to all men is not necessarily the case!

The Club Theatre is delighted to welcome back, this time as director, Terry Hollinshead who made a great impression when he appeared on stage as Wilf in last year's production of Quartet.

This is Terry's directing debut at the theatre and he is enjoying it very much.

Speaking about the play he said: "I find it very funny and it seemed just the right type of piece to do at this time of the year.

"It is a very broad and brawny comedy and I hope everyone will enjoy it."

The story concerns a family Christmas where no one receives a present that is at all appropriate and culinary disasters abound. Long buried resentments rear their ugly heads as the alcohol flows and tongues are loosened.

Terry last directed panto with the Sale Nomads and wrote some of their pantos and musical shows. He has also been involved in a production of Comfort and Joy previously with the Nomads six years ago.

"I hope that audiences will come with a view to having a good night out," says Terry.

The play starts on December 3 and runs until December 9. Tickets are £7.50 and can be obtained from the booking office on 0161 928 1113 or you can e-mail tickets@clubtheatre.org.uk
