Sharks wing Steve Hanley talks set-backs, injuries and putting things right in the latest instalment of his weekly column.

Everybody's talking about Sale this week with the news about the injuries breaking.

None of us could quite believe it, it's a massive disappointment to lose three players of such quality. Charlie, Sheri and Whitey are all crucial to the team.

But although there's no disguising the fact that it's a blow, it hasn't really dampened the mood among the players.

We're all just focussed on what we need to do in their absence and if you can take one positive from it, at least some other players will now get the chance to play first team rugby.

Obviously Charlie's a big miss. He's been through this before so he knows what's in front of him but it's really unlucky since he missed the last World Cup and now he's got a race to get fit for this one.

But he's pretty dedicated to doing his rehab and stuff like that and it might even benefit the three of them having each other to work with.

I know only too well that it's sometimes hard to get yourself motivated when you've got to do the rehab work on your own and you have the choice between going to the gym and just relaxing!

But if one of them doesn't fell like doing something one day, they'll have the other two on their back and I think that'll help them to come through it stronger.

What really disappointed me about the moment Charlie got injured was the reaction of the Twickenham crowd. It's hard to understand how they can treat him the way they do.

I think it starts off with some of the written media though. Some of the rugby papers start slating Charlie and it becomes convenient to use him as a scapegoat for England's problems.

But I don't know what they expect from him when England try and play things off 12 and don't let Charlie play his natural game.

He didn't have his best game against Argentina, he'll admit that but when he's not had his best game for Sale before he's not been booed off, they still give him a standing ovation.

Maybe a couple of years ago this all would've got Charlie down but he just takes it on the chin and laughs about it now. Look at Cristiano Ronaldo for Manchester United. He's constantly booed but he just sticks it to people who boo and jeer him now.

It's the same for me. I've taken my fair share of criticism from Sale fans but I've been around for a long enough time to take any criticism on the chin myself.

I'm too long in the tooth to let any of that bother me, although I would love to see some of them out there on the field!

Our game against Quins on Friday is absolutely massive. We were all extremely disappointed by the Newcastle result and we're desperate to put things right.

It's not going to be easy though and we have to respect Quins, especially because they're playing well at the moment. They've won three in a row in the league and got themselves out of a bit of a mire.

I think Kingsley might have a point about us not being 100 per cent focussed against Newcastle. Maybe the fact that we'd beaten the side that contained most of their players quite convincingly in the EDF Cup made us lax.

As a whole we might not have been up for it like we were with the Wasps game and it just shows in that league that you can't do it really - one lax game when a couple of people don't turn up and you're liable to lose.

So we need to make sure all 15 players have got their heads screwed on this week.
