OLDFIELD Brow Primary School's motto only the best will do' proved to be true as they secured an outstanding Ofsted report.

Inspectors visited the Taylor Road school in October and handed out the highest grades for all areas under examination.

This is the second time in a row - with the last visit being in 2002 - that Ofsted has provided such a positive account of the school.

Robert Merrell, headteacher, said: "When we were last inspected we were described as excellent which was the highest accolade they could give. They've now changed the phrasing and we've been described as outstanding.

"For a small primary school we are delighted to be described in such glowing terms.

"It's recognition of the efforts of all the staff, parents, governors and teachers."

In their report, the inspectors highlighted the outstanding' leadership and management, the highly motivated and passionate' attitude of the staff and the outstanding care, guidance and support' the pupils receive.

Achievement and standards, personal development, teaching and learning and the curriculum were also all described as outstanding.

It stated: "It is a happy school and prides itself on its friendliness and warmth; it is easy to see why places are in demand; it is a vibrant place to be and very successful in getting the best out of people."

The only thing the school was recommended to do to improve further was to make sure all marking matched the best practice in letting pupils know how well they were doing and what they needed to do to improve their work.

To thank the children for their part in the outstanding report, a star for a night' themed party is being held on Thursday evening.
