MANCHESTER High School for Girls is once again celebrating superb GCSE results as 82 per cent of all the results achieved are at the top grades of A* or A.
Well over half of the girls attained the coveted ‘Super A*’ (an A* with distinction), A* or A in at least nine subjects, and over a third attained ten or more GCSEs at these highest grades.
More than 90 per cent of all girls, who took Further Mathematics at GCSE, achieved a Super A*, A* or A in the subject.
16-year old Faye Ho, from Eccles, achieved a stunning 11.5 A*s.
Faye has studied at Manchester High since the age of four, and said: “I’m very proud of myself. I enjoy working hard and put in a lot of time, especially with my favourite subjects.”
Faye will continue into the Sixth Form at Manchester High to study Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Latin at A Level.
She added: “I am interested in Law and Medicine. I have done a lot of work experience this summer in hospitals and several law firms to keep my options open.”
Headteacher, Mrs Claire Hewitt, said: “I am thrilled for the girls and very proud of their outstanding achievements. They thoroughly deserve this success which is the culmination of both their hard work and that of their teachers.”
She added: “At Manchester High, we are committed to ensuring that each girl achieves her very best and fulfils her potential.
“We do this by not only supporting students in their academic studies, but also encouraging them to continue with their participation in a wide range of extra-curricular activities including sport, drama, music and charity work.”
In September, the school’s Sixth Form students will be the first to enjoy a new, state-of-the-art Sixth Form centre for their A-level or International Baccalaureate (IB) studies.
The impressive building includes a lecture theatre, ICT facilities, rooms for lessons and tutorial sessions, three additional science laboratories, a common room, a café area and an outdoor quad.
