DESPITE the turbulence with the GCSE examinations this year Ashton on Mersey School is celebrating another increase in the proportion of students gaining good GCSE results.
60 per cent of pupils attained the 5 A*-C (including English and Maths) benchmark this year with nearly a quarter of pupils achieving 3 or more of the top grades of A*/A.
17 pupils achieved 5+ A*/A including A*/A in both Maths and English.
Ashton on Mersey has had 5 ‘outstanding’ Ofsted judgements and continues to be a lead teaching school, training new teachers as well as supporting a number of other schools.
The executive principal, Vicky Beer CBE, who is also the chairman of the National Teaching School Council, stated: ‘We are extremely pleased with our year on year improvements especially against the backdrop of much more rigorous and testing examinations.
"Significant credit and congratulations should go to the students and staff for their commitment and enthusiasm in embracing change to achieve these results."
Mr Moloney, headteacher, was especially delighted with the results as this was always going to be a challenging year for the children and staff.
The Dean Trust schools look to emulate the success at Ashton on Mersey and the chief executive, Tarun Kapur CBE, said: ‘It is essential that Ashton on Mersey maintains this status as all of our schools use Ashton as a ‘model of excellence’ and learn much from their practice.
"This is not limited to our own schools as we successfully support many other schools in the North West."
