Students and staff at Urmston Grammar are celebrating as the school achieved its best ever A Level results.
The Year 13 students arrived bright and early and flocked into the Main Hall to open their results.
There was a record number of A* and A grades and a remarkable 21 students achieved A*or A in three or more of their subjects: Anudeep Ayinaparthi, Lauren Bellis, Nicola Bennett, Peter Brierley, Rebecca De La Hoyde, Anna Estkowski, Sam Grimshaw, Areeb Rauf Iqbal, Nabila Juhi, Joanne McNulty, Josh Nelson, Patrick O'Callaghan, Rumaanah Patel, Heather Rydings, Beth Sedley, Katie Vincent, Alistair Ward, James Wilkinson, Thomas Wilkinson, Cameron Young and Angela Zhang.
Katie Vincent also achieved distinction in her Advanced Extension Award Maths.
Beth Sedley, who achieved A*A*A B said, “I have no words to explain how happy I am.” Which could be considered ironic as she is going on to study English and Linguistics at Lancaster University.
Areeb Rauf Iqbal achieved A A A B and said, “I am delighted and cannot thank the staff enough for all the support they have provided over the last two years; I can’t wait to get started on my course.”
He now has a place to study medicine at the University of Manchester.
Joanne McNulty, who achieved A*A*A*A A, is off to Wadham College, Oxford to study History and Italian; as she celebrated with friends this morning, she said, “I am surprised and relieved, but very, very happy”
Mrs Riffat Wall, who has been Principal at the school since 2010, is delighted with the outstanding results. She added: “The hard work, time and effort invested by so many students, and the staff, has paid dividends; our students demonstrated a conscientious and determined approach to their studies and we are proud of their academic achievements. We must not forget how much support students receive from their parents and extended families; I know how much this is appreciated. It was so wonderful to see our young people celebrating this morning and we wish them all well in the next stage of their education and careers. I am so proud of all of them.”
