Its official - the ducks are now ducks! Last night they slept under the stars, not in an office, not in a little penthouse, but out in the open air where ducks sleep - ish! They weren't in the proper open air, they were still in their run - but it's a start.
The problem with our lovely little ducks is this - they're rampophobic! They refuse to scale their ramp which takes them back into their little house. No matter how much I coax them with food they will not climb up the (apparently) duck-friendly ramp into their cosy, warm house. Those of you watching the webcam will have seen me on several occasions sticking my head through the door of their house trying to encourage them to make the journey - but to no avail.
As a consequence I've been putting them to bed every night in their little house, and there they have to be cooped up (no pun intended) until the morning. If you've seen the size of Billy and Ellie now you'll understand why this is not a good idea! So we had to make the decision of when we were going to try to toughen them up a little, and it seems the time has come.
Being the softies we are, we're probably going to lower the house so they can get in and out with ease, but I think its time to let them be ducks and do duck things - and if that means spending their nights sleeping under the stars like real ducks do, well that's what we're going to have to do.
By the way - if anyone is actually reading this blog, please let me know! Writing a blog is fun, but it becomes less enchanting if you think no-one is actually reading! There's a comments section on the blog, it would be great if you could use it. Nothing offensive, I only want nice feedback!!!
