THIS picture taken near Dutton’s Pond in Flixton is of a spotted dead nettle plant, was sent in by Alan Walker of Davyhulme.
The spotted comes from the white part of the leaf. The dead nettle comes from the fact that unlike it’s counterpart, the stinging nettle, the dead nettle has no sting.
The plant, with a hooded flower, will flower from April through to November. Can be a good ground cover plant in the garden but care would need to be taken on it’s spread.
