STRETFORD High School is closed while bosses carry out a deep clean of the facilities.

Headteacher Nichola Doward posted a letter on the Great Stone Road school's website.

It said: "You know that our most important priority at Stretford High School is the safety and well being of our community.

"Therefore, it is important that we take careful and considered action during this time when our community may be affected by the coronavirus. It is also important that you are kept up to date.

"Thus far, no one in our school community, children nor staff, has been tested and confirmed as positive for the virus.

"However, we do have a number of staff who have some mild symptoms and are self isolating as advised by Public Health England and the Department of Education.

"In circumstances such as these, it is necessary to conduct a deep clean of the school to ensure that the virus is not being transferred on surfaces. 

"Therefore, school will be closed to pupils on Monday 16th while we ensure that this happens.

"Pupils will be set work on class charts and via email by their class teachers. Please ensure that your child accesses class charts to stay up to date with their learning.

"This is a precautionary measure which we are putting in place to safeguard our children, our staff and our families. I know that it will not be easy to manage but rest assured that it is in the best interests of the people we love.

"Obviously, we want our children to be healthy and for this virus to be contained.

"Therefore, I am reminding you that your children should remain in doors during this closure and focus on their education at home. They should not be mixing in the local community as this is a bigger risk for the community at large.

"I know that they will be responsible and respectful at this time.

"In the meantime, please continue to practice good hand hygiene, those with symptoms should self isolate and please continue to contact the school if your child is unwell. It is important that we still communicate at this time."
