AN URMSTON pensioner who has raised thousands of pounds for charity making cushions out of recycled materials has started another project to help the NHS.

Marion Platt has been creating the cushions for 15 years and so far has raised £15,000 for various charities.

Inspired by her grandson, Chad Headford, who works in the pharmacy at hospitals in Tameside, the 75-year-old has had people asking about ordering the cushions which take a week to complete.

Daughter Jeanette Headford, said: “I am so proud of her, she is the most selfless person I know.

“She thinks the NHS is wonderful and since the lockdown she has wanted to help.

“She has eight grandchildren and she knew that Chad works in Tameside General.

“She has done it with the rainbow colours as that is what everyone seems to be doing now.”

Marion has also been making cushions for family members and even doing them with old Manchester City and Manchester United shirts.

Jeanette said: “We managed to get one signed by Ryan Giggs and Phil Neville and it was sold for £45.

“But we have been getting old City and United shirts and she uses the badges and the fabric and has been turning them into cushions.

“We sold some of them for £5 and we said she should be selling them for more but she told us 'no' and wants the money to go to charity.”

So far she has almost raised £200 for the NHS.
