TRAFFIC is being released after a "serious collision" closed one section of the M62.
Emergency services were called to the crash on the westbound carriageway between junction 12 for Eccles Interchange and junction 11 for Warrington.
North West Motorway Police arrived on scene shortly after 2pm, with paramedics reaching the incident at 2.10pm.
A full closure is in place and the road is expected to remain shut until 5.30pm whilst accident investigators work.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area and find an alternative route.
Lane one was reopened to clear trapped traffic at around 2.40pm.
The eastbound carriageway is open.
Diverted traffic should exit the M62 at junction 12, following the hollow square diversion symbol to head towards the M60.
