A DRIVER has died after a crash in Stretford following a police chase.
Police spotted a "suspicious vehicle" at around 1.30pm today and signalled for it to stop but it carried on travelling.
Officers lost sight of the vehicle but then realised it had crashed into another vehicle on Urmston Lane.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have said that the driver of the vehicle officers were following has died.
The driver's age or gender has not been reported.
The occupants of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries.
The collision reportedly happened on Urmston Lane between Kingsway and Sandy Lane.
The road was closed in both directions on that stretch of the road as emergency services worked at the scene.
A GMP spokesman said: "At around 1.30pm on Sunday, police in Trafford spotted a suspicious vehicle and signalled for it to stop but it failed to do so.
"Officers then lost sight of the vehicle before discovering that it had collided into another vehicle a short time later on Urmston Lane.
"The driver of the first vehicle was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
"The occupants of the second vehicle thankfully suffered only minor injuries.
"Enquiries are ongoing into this incident and anyone with any information that may assist police should contact police online, if able, via www.gmp.police.uk or quoting log 1,579 of May 16."
