ONE person was taken to hospital after a lorry fire on Partington's Manchester Road yesterday.

The emergency services were called to the scene at around 4.15pm.

Two fire engines arrived to find a flatbed lorry consumed in flames.

Firefighters soon got the fire under control, also coating the road in foam where fuel had leaked.

But one person suffered burns in the fire and was taken to hospital.

The person's condition is unknown.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At approximately 4.15pm on Wednesday 30 June, firefighters were called to reports of a vehicle fire on Manchester Road in Partington.

"Two fire engines from Sale and Stretford attended the scene.

"The fire involved a flatbed lorry.

"One casualty suffered burns and has been conveyed to hospital.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels and other specialist equipment to extinguish the fire.

"Fire crews are also used foam to clear fuel on the carriageway and were in attendance for around two hours and 40 minutes."

Manchester Road was closed in both directions between Moss Lane and Central Road during the fire, causing a lot of traffic.

Transport for Greater Manchester tweeted at around 7.30pm to tell drivers the road had reopened.
