THE British Automatic Fire Sprinkler Association (BAFSA) has launched 'Wise up to Fire', an initiative to provide fire safety information, including the wider use of sprinklers to give increased cost-effective protection to care homes.
Every year there are around 800 fires in homes providing care for older persons, with an average of three deaths each year, and a further 84 injuries.
BAFSA suggests that those who are thinking about using a care home should ask about fire sprinklers and whether they are part of the fire protection package'.
