A CHARITY based in Urmston is 'devastated' after more than £2,000 is said to have been snatched from two of its support workers outside a NatWest in the town centre.

Special Educational Needs Family Support Group (SENFSG) raised around £2,200 over the last 12 months to support more than 80 families in Trafford.

The sum was set to be spent on food and essentials for these families, who have children with disabilities, learning difficulties or life-limiting conditions.

But after two support workers withdrew it at the NatWest on Crofts Bank Road on Friday, December 10, a thief struck, according to the charity.

Ann Lee, a support worker for SENFSG for around 16 years, said her two co-workers were both shaken up, but unharmed.

She said: "[The thief] snatched it and ran off. It all happened in seconds.

"They're both devastated."

This was reported to police, but Ann is not impressed with the response.

She said: "There is no concern for innocent people.

"If you're mugged, you get a crime number, that's it."

SENFSG has been supporting families in Trafford for more than 30 years, with Christmas one of its busiest times.

As well as food, the charity offers essentials such as electric and gas meter cards, toiletries and children's toys.

It expects this Christmas to be the last for some of the children it supports.

Ann said: "They're desperate people. The majority have no electric or gas.

"Some of them walk around shopping centres and supermarkets to keep warm."

"When you've got nothing and you get one thing, that's special," she added.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "This was reported to us on Sunday, December 12.

"Initial enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made."

SENFSG is appealing for help from the public to allow it to still support more than 80 families in Trafford this Christmas.
