PLANS for an extension to Hale Country Club and Spa have been approved.
Trafford Council’s planning committee discussed the plans and all members were in favour of granting permission, as recommended by council officers, for the plans.
The proposals from The Hut Group include an expansion of the club’s car park, a brand new extension to the ground floor of the building, re-cladding the whole of the outside of the site and a refurbishment for the south terrace.
The update of the south terrace is set to include construction of a new pavilion, pergola, serving area and external toilet facility. The whole site is also set for landscaping.
Plans for a new all-weather pitch and football pitch to the north of the site were set to be included in the revamp, but these have since been withdrawn, following objections from nearby residents.
A number of nearby residents wrote to the council to object to the new pitch plans – with their concerns surround the increased traffic the larger site could attract, the associated noise and light pollution and reduced water pressure to nearby homes.
One resident wrote: “We already suffer the effects of loud beat music from the north side of the club.”
Another said: "[We] have seen an incredible increase in the use of [Clay Lane] by all kinds of traffic including enormous lorries.”
These objections were withdrawn after plans for the new all-weather pitch on site were done away with.
In the surviving proposals, the car park will actually have fewer spaces than the current one does – going from 252 spaces to 220.
The planned extension will increase the site’s footprint from 3476 square metres to 3712 square metres.
Trafford Council’s planning committee members voted unanimously to approve the plans.
