A MAN was attacked in his own home by knife-wielding robbers, who sliced his finger off.
Shortly before 7pm on Wednesday 23 January 2008, the 54-year-old answered the door to his home in Pinewood, Sale, and was confronted by two masked men.
One of them was armed with a large hunting knife and demanded the householder hand over cash.
They tried to burst through the porch and smashed a window as they did so.
The victim tried to prevent the robbers from coming into his house, and one of them lashed out with a knife, cutting his right hand and severing the man's little finger on his left hand.
He is currently undergoing surgery to save it.
The offender carrying the knife is described as being around 6ft 4ins tall, of stocky build and was wearing dark clothing and a black balaclava.
The second man was around 5ft 7ins tall, also of stocky build and also wearing a black balaclava and dark clothes.
Detective Constable Andrew Kettle, of Stretford CID said: "This was a despicable offence, and it has left the victim with a nasty injury. It has also caused him and his family a great deal of upset.
"I would urge anyone who may have any information to call Stretford CID on 0161 856 7679 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
