A BAR is set to bring city centre-style entertainment to Urmston after an inauspicious start to its time in the town.
'SUP, which opened in September, is set to start a comedy night next month.
Owner John Locke, who is a veteran of both the entertainment and hospitality businesses, thought it might be tough when he opened the bar on Flixton Road.
But it has been tougher than even he thought, despite experience at popular places like The Commercial in Chester and The Northern in the Northern Quarter.
He said: "It has been hard. There have been times when I thought I'd have to close the doors."
"But we've built up a good crowd. We're breaking even and and we're not going anywhere."
Now John is sure 'SUP is not going anywhere, he is ready to start a comedy night at the bar.
A former manager at The Comedy Store in Manchester, he has had the idea of Smile 'SUP since the day it opened.

A post on social media for the comedy night said: "We decided to start a comedy night in Urmston to provide a city centre-quality evening, but here in our own hometown.
"Bringing you great comedy and superb acts for a really reasonable price in intimate surroundings."
For £10, 30 people are set to be treated to entertainment from comedians including one-time Manchester Comedian of the Year Jamie Hutchinson and Phil Ellis, who has had several appearances on radio and TV.
The idea is then to run Smile 'SUP on a biweekly basis. For information on and tickets to the comedy night, go to supurmston.co.uk or search for @supurmston on Facebook.
