A FORMER call girl from East Lancashire says she used sex work to pay for the care of stray cats.
Writing under the pen name Cat English, she reveals this and more in her erotic fiction book ‘Briefly Yours’, which comes out later this month.
Cat, who lives in Darwen, is dedicated to the care of animals, spending anywhere from £3,000 to £5,000 a month on vet bills and food for the felines.
The self-confessed ‘feral cat caretaker’ also admits to spending £500 a week on their food and feeding up to 100 cats a day.
As well as nice clothes and sports cars, Cat, who is originally from Bury, used a large chunk of her sex work earnings on pet care.
Cat, 36, said: “Cats were one of the main reasons why I was doing this job. So many of them struggle on the streets, it is an absolute shame. I wish people would just be more responsible with their cats and I hope that this book means people will start to microchip and neuter cats and the world will be a better place.”
As well as holding retail and store management jobs, Cat has been working on and off in the sex industry since the age of 18 when she became a lap dancer.
She started work as a call girl aged 23, working mainly in Manchester and Australia.
She said: “I remember struggling a lot with money. I was always overdrawn and going into my overdraft.
“I spoke with a co-worker and heard escorts made a lot of money. We said we wouldn’t mind doing this and giving an agency a call.”
Cat kept a diary of the stories and people she encountered.
She said: “I started to write the book as a diary years ago and knew I had to also talk about the cats and my rescue work as they are such a big part of my life.”
While she enjoyed her career path, Cat did encounter some clients who were “hard to deal with”.
She said: “It is quite scary if you are going out to a call and don’t know who you are seeing but I do enjoy it and you do meet some lovely people.
“However, you also meet some people who are quite heavy-handed and I’ve been very open about the clients who were hard to deal with.”
In the book, Cat details encounters with a foreign prince, someone who brought jump leads with him to the parlour and other colourful characters.
While the book is littered with erotic scenes, the rescue cats also play a huge part in the memoir.
Now, Cat is living with a boyfriend and '40-something cats' and isn’t currently working as a call girl.
She helps lost and stray animals via her Facebook page, English Barn Cats.
In her book, she reveals her dream of creating a feral and stray cat sanctuary.
She said: “I know I should stop but I can’t help but rescue a cat in need.
“Any time a stray cat turned up I would give them a home. After that, I started volunteering for cat rescues and everyone started to know me in the community.
“I get hundreds of messages every day about cats in needs.
“If I can create some awareness and teach people that the smallest thing you can do is neuter them to stop breeding on the street, then at least that’s something.
“That’s the main reason why I want the book out there and that’s to create awareness for people who want help and advice about getting stray cats help and neutered.”
Briefly Yours by Cat English, is out on March 28 and is available to buy online at www.catenglish.co.uk and in bookshops.
