SIX women from Trafford are set to take on once-in-a-lifetime roles in the celebration of The Queen's 70 years on the throne.
Farheen Saloojee, Francesca Henderson, Isha Rajan, Jane Halpin, Janet Gorman and Sonia Sharma are all involved in the Platinum Jubilee Pageant this Sunday.
The pageant is in the form of a parade, which winds through Westminster's streets and past Buckingham Palace on The Mall.
Greater Manchester arts organisation Global Grooves is set to contribute a colourful carnival procession and the six women all have their own part to play in it.
Farheen, a student teacher, is a drummer in the procession, and fitness instructor Francesca is one of the dancers. Both of them are from Stretford.
Other dancers include 15-year-old Isha, from Sale, and Jane, also from Stretford.
Isha, who specialises in Indian dance form Kathak, said: "I'm proud of my Indian heritage, and I want to learn more about this rich culture, which Kathak helps me to do.
"I'll be proud to showcase this beautiful, colourful dance form to a wide audience."
Jane added: "I've always had a love for dance and it will be amazing to celebrate in such a vibrant and fun way which involves a wide and mixed community of people."
Janet, from Old Trafford, has been helping to create costumes for the group, which is sending more than 100 participants in total, including drag artist Cheddar Gorgeous.
Sonia, who has lived in Stretford for more than 15 years, is trying her hand at puppeteering despite her background in dance.
Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s executive member for culture and leisure, said: “I'm proud these six women will be in London to represent Trafford on this fabulous occasion to celebrate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
"Well done to you all for all your amazing efforts and have a brilliant day.
"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we know you’ll all be great."
