With the dark nights closing in on us, it was rather apt that a warming, old ale style offering, is my beer highlight of the week. Coming courtesy of Harrogate based brewery, Rooster’s. They brew an exceptional range of innovative ales.
Their Throwback, old ale beer (5.3%) was an absolute stunner.
Dark amber in colour, with a tight, white head. Featuring a biscuit/bready malt, toffee and a light, spicy aroma. Freshly-baked bread maltiness, toffee, soft spice, dark fruits and some mild, earthy flavours fill the mouth.
The complex notes balance to perfection on the palate.
Rich malt, tangy, spicy hops and light, earthy notes were all identified, in the lingering and warming finish.
There’s an X factor about Rooster’s beers, in my opinion. Throwback being one of the most enjoyable ales this year. So moreish and flavoursome. In exceptional condition at the Dog Inn, Whalley.
