A man has been arrested in Sale on suspicion of wasting police time following an alleged false report which saw two people arrested.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) shared on social media yesterday (Friday, November 18) that, allegedly, the suspect knowingly made a false report to police which led to the two people being arrested due to the severity of the allegation.
The two people spent hours in police custody before they were released, which required the attention of four police officers who GMP said could have been out on the streets.
The man who made the alleged false claim was then arrested by the Sale Central Neighbourhood Team yesterday morning on suspicion of wasting police time.
GMP said in the post: "As a result of this one malicious call, it has cost the force hours of time which could have been better spent servicing calls and responding to real victims of serious crime."
