A bus was evacuated after it burst into flames in the centre of Hale.

The emergency services were called to a lay-by on Ashley Road at around 8.30am on January 5.

According to Greater Manchester Police (GMP), a bus was evacuated and there were no injuries.

Crews from Altrincham and Sale tackled the fire for around 45 minutes, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said.

At the time, a spokesperson for GMP said: "At around 8.30am this morning, officers were called to reports of a bus on fire on Ashley Road in Hale. The emergency services attended the scene.

"All passengers left the vehicle safely and no injuries were reported."

A spokesperson for GMFRS added: "At around 08.30am, firefighters were called to a bus on fire on Ashley Road in Hale.

"Two fire engines from Altrincham and Sale attended the scene and extinguished the fire using two hose reels and a breathing apparatus."

A photo taken at the scene showed an Arriva UK bus burnt out from front to back.

It was removed from Ashley Road and the road reopened some time before noon.
