Firefighters were scrambled to the scene after a blaze broke out at a recycling centre in Altrincham.

The emergency services were called to Woodhouse Lane Recycling Centre at around 4pm on Monday.

Two fire engines from fire stations in Altrincham and Sale were sent to the scene, off Sinderland Lane.

It took around an hour to battle the blaze, described as 'a small skip fire', the cause of which is unknown.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Just before 4pm, two fire engines from Altrincham and Sale fire stations were called to reports of a small skip fire at a recycling centre on Woodhouse Lane.

"Firefighters used a short extension ladder, hose reel and a running end to extinguish the fire. Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour."
