The Railway Club in Stretford has unveiled a stunning new tribute to Manchester United’s famous ‘Busby Babes’ at its Chester Road base near to Old Trafford.
The club is a regular venue for United fans on matchday and now has a mural of the last line-up of the Babes in its new beer garden, as well as a replica of the monument in Munich that sits at the site of the fateful air crash in 1958.
The project is the brainchild of licensee Jackie Cosgrave and Brian Mulholland, of the Manchester Munich Memorial Foundation (MMMF) and was unveiled last Friday by former United stars Paddy Crerand and Alex Stepney.
Mulholland said: “Members of the MMMF voluntarily donated to fund this monument and Jackie had the idea of the mural to go alongside it.
“Various people have had an input and I think it will become a shrine for United fans to visit from all over the world.”
Cosgrave added: “Brian approached me with the idea and it looks absolutely fantastic and a superb tribute to the Busby Babes which we are proud to have at our club.”
