An Urmston councillor has praised women across the borough at the third Trafford International Women’s Day awards.
Cllr Joanne Harding, executive member for culture, leisure, and strategic partnerships, hosted the awards on Saturday, March 4.
The event was held at Flixton Girls School with more than 150 people in attendance and was opened by the mayor of Trafford, Cllr Chris Boyes.
Cllr Harding received 70 nominations for seven categories.
The winners are:
Inspirational Young Woman – Maddison Edgar and Rebecca Coles
Inspirational Community Champion – Catherine D’Albertanson and Tina Huxley
Inspirational Woman Leader – Caroline Gleaves and Samantha Fisher
Inspirational Volunteer – Myra Neale, Leila Sheikh Seliman, Jasmine Stagg and Michelle McHale
Inspirational Woman in Health and Social Care – Samantha Drabble and Rachael
Mallard Inspirational Woman in Business – Aliya Bukhari and Lucy Reynolds
Woman who goes Above and Beyond – Tracy London & Safina Ahmed
Cllr Harding said: “It was incredibly tough to pick the winners from each category, as far as I am concerned every single woman nominated is a winner.
“Every woman named was awarded a certificate and there were some amazing stories of all the brilliant work that many unsung heroines are doing across Trafford.”
There were also some guest speakers on the day who told emotive stories of the reasons why they came into work that supports women and girls.
The event was closed by one of the Young Woman nominees, Neeve Zahara, who is now seeing national success as a country singer.
Cllr Harding added: “It was an absolutely joyous celebration of some brilliant women in Trafford. It is so important on International Women’s Day to recognise some the amazing achievements of local women.”
