The leader of Trafford Council has appointed a new-look executive to lead the borough through at least the next 12 months.

Cllr Tom Ross has chosen a top team of councillors from the Labour Group which remains the largest group on the authority.

The new-look executive contains some familiar faces from the last administration although with some of the roles tweaked.

The deputy leader Cllr Catherine Hynes is now responsible for arts and culture, the previous portfolio of Cllr Joanne Harding, who is now responsible for finance and governance.

Cllr Karina Carter is changing adult's services for children's services, with her previous responsibilities passing on to Cllr Jane Slater, and Cllr Aidan Williams is concentrating on climate change, with his previous responsibilities for highways and transport passing on to Cllr Stephen Adshead.

Cllr Ross, who replaced Stretford and Urmston MP Andrew Western as leader around the New Year, said: "I'm delighted at the make-up of my executive. We have hard-working councillors, dedicated to improving the lives of our residents, and they will do a wonderful job.

"This executive also shows my key priorities for our borough. Since I became leader, I’ve focused on giving children the best start in life and Cllr Carter will be carrying on the great work in this area.

"We also need to focus on our addressing the climate crisis, which is why we have a dedicated portfolio for this issue.

"We will also continue to provide the right care for the vulnerable, improve our highways and regenerate our town centres, while maintaining prudent finances.

"Culture can bring joy and wonderment so it’s important this is not ignored. Cllr Hynes's portfolio will make sure everyone is able to access the fantastic leisure and cultural offerings in our borough."
