The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in Trafford and across the area for tomorrow (June 18).
It starts at midnight on Saturday night and lasts to midnight on Sunday night with a change of disruption across the region.
The Met Office said a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms means there is a risk of an impact on the roads and the railways and of a loss of power to properties.
The areas worst affected by the storm are still to be determined, with some areas in line for 30mm of rain in a one-hour period, but others in line to avoid it altogether.

Sarah Cook, National Flood Duty Manager at the Environment Agency said: "On Sunday and into the night, slow-moving showers and thunderstorms could lead to surface water flooding across England.
"Environment Agency teams are out on the ground to support local authorities in responding to surface water flooding.
"We urge people not to drive though floodwater. It is deeper than it looks and 30cm of floodwater is enough to float a car.
"People should check their flood risk, sign up for flood warnings and keep up to date with the situation at gov.uk/check-if-youre-at-risk-of-flooding or follow @EnvAgency on Twitter for flood updates."
