A park is in line for more than £100,000 of investment in the form of an outdoor gym, a skate area and a woodland trail.

The work at Lostock Park is the result of a collaboration between The Friends of Lostock Park, The Veolia Environmental Trust and One Trafford, a partnership between the council and contractor Amey PLC.

The area around Lostock Park has the highest incidence of cardiovascular disease and respiratory disease in the North of Trafford, according to One Trafford, with the investment intended to tackle these issues.

There is an outdoor gym with 15 stations, a skate area for amateur skaters and a woodland trail for running and walking.

Stephen Adshead, Trafford Council's executive member for highways, environmental and traded services, said: "The impact of this project on our residents is enormous.

"We continue to find ways to not only improve the aesthetics of our public spaces but also to strive to make them a place for social integration and learning, especially with our children and families. I’m looking forward to its completion."

Recently the park hit the headlines for its swings which were targeted by vandals again and again. Over a dozen seats were replaced at a cost of more than £1,000 last year, with one of the seats damaged only one day after it was repaired.

The authorities appealed to the public to work with them to stop the park becoming 'unsafe' and 'unusable'.
