A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving after a woman was struck by a car while she was crossing a road.
Police say they were called to reports of a crash on Chester Road, Stretford, at around 10.10pm on Saturday near the Tesco Superstore.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “It is believed that the pedestrian, a female in her 40s, was struck by a Black Audi A8 travelling city bound whilst she crossed Chester Road, before falling into the path of a Mercedes on the Stretford bound carriageway.
“The Audi left the scene however was recovered nearby.
“Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the pedestrian sustained injuries that have proven fatal.
“Her family have been contacted and are being supported by specially trained officers.”
Police say that a 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention and remains in custody.
Officers are now appealing for anyone with any information or who may have witnessed the incident or has dash cam footage of the incident itself or the cars leading up to the moment of collision to get in touch.
