Police provided an update after a pedestrian died in a crash involving two cars in Stretford.

They were called to Chester Road, close to the Tesco Extra, at around 10.10pm on Saturday.

Police said a pedestrian, a woman in her 40s, was struck by an Audi on the Manchester-bound carriageway before she into the path of a Mercedes on the Stretford-bound carriageway. She died despite the efforts of the emergency services.

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and he was taken into custody.

Police provided an update in which they said the 36-year-old man was bailed while the investigation is ongoing.
