An Oktoberfest event is taking place next month to raise money for a girl from Urmston who wants to compete in the next Winter Paralympics.
Amy Clegg is a Slalom Skier who has Cerebral Palsy and a hearing impairment.
The 17-year-old was born 11 weeks premature and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at 18 months old.
Despite being told she would likely never walk, Amy took up skiing in secondary school.
The Trafford-born athlete is now looking to raise £10,000 to attend a winter training camp in Canada.
Amy wants to try and break into the elite bracket of British Paralympic athletes competing to make it to the Milano/Cortina Paralympics.
The funding will help her break into the Team GB development team camp that starts just after Oktoberfest.
Fundraising is being done by Riff Raff Society, a small, dedicated team of volunteers who, for the past 12 years, have worked to help Mancunians facing hardship.
The charity helps to fund respite breaks for those facing life-threatening disease, providing life-changing equipment for disabled people as well as funding holidays for families with children that have faced significant hardship or illness.
Martin Green, from Riff Raff Society, said: “Our mission is simple; we fund Mancunians facing hardship.
“We investigate hardship situations and run campaigns to make sometimes life-changing interventions for Mancunians in need."
The charity is hosting an Oktoberfest event on September 30 to raise money for Amy’s winter training camp.
The event will take place at Flixton Cricket Club, and will feature entertainment all day long, including food and drink stalls and a child-supervised play area.
Martin said the event will see “partygoers getting into the party spirit drinking from plastic Steins with many revellers wearing Bavarian party wear”.
With two stages, guests will have the opportunity to see different acts throughout the day-long festival.
The main stage will feature local DJ Johnny Spangles, with Flicton Umpah Band in the afternoon, Manc legend XFM’s Inspiral Carpets DJ, Clint Boon, followed by Manchester’s Reggae band, Ruff Trade, Urmston cover band Retro Active and ABBA power.
The second stage will also show acts like DJ Colin from the Discotheque Erotica (The Lord Nelson) and blind pianist, Shaun Sir Blimeys.
All profits from the event will go to Amy’s Paralympic journey, and tickets are still available here.
