THE M56 is currently closed in both directions due to an ongoing ‘police incident’.
Cheshire Police has confirmed that the motorway has been shut near to junction 11 for Daresbury.
An air ambulance has been dispatched to the scene following reports that a person has suffered a head injury.
Motorists are urged to find alternate routes as a result of the closure.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “We received a call at 1.50pm with reports of a pedestrian on the hard shoulder of the M56 at junction 11.
“Officers are currently in attendance and a helimed has been called, with the pedestrian believed to have suffered head injuries.
“The motorway is currently closed in both directions.”
North West Motorway Police added: “We will be closing M56 both carriageways at junction 11 due to a police incident. Please find an alternative route.”
