An Altrincham schoolgirl has been selected to represent all Trafford Cadets as the Mayor of Trafford's 'Cadet of the Year'.

Madison Grace, a student at Loreto Grammar, was chosen her achievements as a cadet in the Royal Marines.

As a result Corporal Grace, 15, is set to attend Armed Forces events across the borough alongside the Mayor of Trafford, Dolores O'Sullivan, including the Battle of Britain service in Sale this month.

Previously she was one of those who was asked to attend the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III at Westminster Abbey this year.

Her Detachment Commander, Stuart Hurlston, described her as an inspiration to all Trafford Cadets and to the staff.

Corporal Grace said: "I am so honoured to be given this opportunity as the Cadet of the Year. I am excited to see what opportunities this will bring me and to represent all Trafford Cadets alongside The Mayor Dolores O'Sullivan.

"I would like to think all of the staff from my unit especially my Detachment Commander, Sergeant Hurlston, for supporting me in this role."

The Mayor Cllr O'Sullivan said: “Corporal Grace is a superb candidate and someone who stands out from the crowd. She is a hardworking, dedicated young woman and nothing seems to stop here achieving her goals.

"Corporal Grace has a very distinguished record, one which her family must be so proud, and being selected to attend the Coronation must be one of her greatest accolades. I will be very proud to have her by my side."
