A meet-up for mothers consisting of 'social, sewing and self-care' is set to begin in Urmston in the new year.
The Mums Café is an idea which was born after Lorna Dungey and Collette Costello discussed the struggles which mums face, while waiting for their children on their school pick-up run.
Collette said: “Long gone are the close-knit communities of the past, where everyone knew each other, and kids played on the streets.”
With mums now facing more pressure than ever before due to societal standards of juggling a job, managing a home, and raising their children - and with little to no support in most cases - Trafford mums are desperate for a support network.
Here, mothers will be encouraged to “give some space for their own mental and emotional wellbeing”.
Collette herself became victim to such hardships, as she was forced to leave her role as a college lecturer due to high workload and extortionate childcare costs.
She said: “Being a stay-at-home mum can have its own pressures, such as being extremely isolating.”
Co-founder and mum of two, Lorna, recognised that what mothers need is a “safe space to relax”, so their aim is to meet other mums, relax, and chat, while also having the opportunity to create a personalised self-care plan as Lorna is a qualified therapist.
She specialises in woman’s mental health, primarily working with mums struggling with anxiety, isolation, depression, worry and identity and relationship issues.
Due to mothers “rarely putting themselves first”, the aim of therapy offered at the sessions is to ”help women to find solutions in life and build confidence and self-esteem to communicate their needs to the people around them”.
Lorna believes, “anyone can benefit from counselling because it is so powerful”.
There will also be a craft station with materials provided for attendees to learn to sew a keepsake, hosted by Collette.
“The Mums Cave is exciting as it is inclusive to all mothers with children of any age”, Lorna added.
Sessions will be held at the Goodness Zero Waste Shop in Urmston, with owner Lucy being “keen to get involved”. As the space is already a “place for the community and is making the world a better place”, it seemed like the perfect place to both Collette and Lorna.
The first group is aimed at those with babies, commencing Wednesday, January 10. Sessions for mothers of older children will take place on Sundays, beginning on January 14. Both will be from 10.00am to 11.30am.
The sessions, priced at £12 each, will include coffees and truffles and are to be paid weekly. Spaces are limited so those interested are encouraged to pre book six weeks. Bookings can be made via the group's Facebook Page.
