An Urmston pub is under scrutiny from Trafford Council over the sale of alcohol to under 18s on at least two occasions.

The Licensing Committee is set to consider the case of the Garricks Head when it meets at the town hall on Wednesday.

According to an application by Elizabeth Pritchard, of Trading Standards, the Moorside Road pub is under scrutiny from Trafford Council over the sale of alcohol to under 18s on at least two occasions.

The team received authorisation from magistrates for surveillance at the site on August 18 and December 22 of last year.

Ms Pritchard said on August 18, two children were sold two alcoholic drinks and on December 22, two children were sold two alcohol drinks again. These volunteers were under supervision at all times.

Ms Pritchard said: "Two sales of alcohol to children under the age of 18 were made when the premises were visited by Trading Standards using volunteers. We visited the Garricks Head as a result of complaints received by the service alleging the sales of alcohol to minors.

"Clearly the premises is not challenging young people or carrying out age verification. I am authorised and I do make an application for a review of the licence."

Trading Standards approached the landlady, Dawn Slater, and the owner, Punch Pubs, for their answers to the allegations.

Ms Slater did not respond and Punch Pubs said whilst it is the owner it is not responsible for the day-to-day management.

Tom Harvey, its head of legal, said: "It is for the partner to operate the premises under their agreement and to comply with all requirements, including ensuring staff are trained in the operator's policies and standards, including in relation to the prevention of underage sales."

The Licensing Committee is set to consider the case of the Garricks Head when it meets at the town hall on Wednesday.

Options open to the committee include the revocation of the licence or the suspension of the licence, as well as changes to the conditions upon the licence.
