A cafe which only opened last week has been damaged when a car veered through chairs and almost smashed through the window in a crash residents said sounded 'like a bomb'.
At approximately 7pm on Friday (December 29), a car reportedly 'smashed' into the side of a new cafe on Cross Street in Altrincham.
Residents in the area said they heard a "huge bang" and the ground "shook" in the impact.
One man said it sounded "like a bomb had gone off" and soon saw blue flashing lights surrounding the cafe.
Another woman said she didn't see what happened but could see from the damage that the car had "smacked" into the building.
Memories Cafe Bar opened to the public just 11 days before the crash, on Monday (December 18).
Photographs show its large side windows, a tree and several bins were hit and damaged by the dark blue Nissan Qashqai.
The cafe's outdoor seating area was also reportedly mowed down in the incident which witnesses said was "luckily" empty at the time as the cafe did have customers inside.
Other witnesses also claim the driver and passengers "ran away" from the scene of the crash.
Images show the car was found with its front passenger door open while its wheel was seen "wrapped" around a tree.
A police car and two vans were called to the scene.
Memories Cafe Bar has been approached for comment.
Greater Manchester Police said the force was unable to comment before this article was published as it was waiting for details from the serious collision investigation unit.
