Trafford FC made a tribute to their ex-chairman after he died over the weekend.
Tom Walmsley was the chairman of the club throughout the 2000s including at the time of their promotion season from the North West Counties League into the Northern Premier League in 2008.
A teacher by trade, at Lostock High School, he was also on the committee of Urmston Cricket Club. After he stopped playing he started umpiring in the Cheshire County Cricket League instead.
Ged Kielty, who was at the helm at Shawe View for the promotion season and who was the Manager of the Year for 2008 as a result, said the man who handed him the role was "a lovely man".
Mr Kielty said: "Tom Walmsley had the belief in me to give me the manager's job and he was always so supportive so I owe him a lot.
"He was a lovely man who I had a lot of time for."
A club spokesperson said: "Everyone at the club sends their condolences to Tom's family.
"He will be sorely missed by us all. RIP Tom x."
