Residents in with a shot at £1,000 for putting rubbish in bin

The council is trialling LitterLotto for a period of three months in an attempt to keep the area in tip-top condition.

The competition consists of an app which allows residents to take a photo of themselves putting their rubbish in the bin. They are allowed to do so any number of times as long as it is not the same rubbish.

They are in with a shot at a prize of up to £1,000 each week in a national draw, as well as other prizes at local level and national level, all funded not by the council but by big brands including McDonald's.

Stephen Adshead, the council's executive member for environmental services, said: "We want Trafford to become more beautiful than it already is and this means doing all we can to stop littering in the borough. 

"Working with LitterLotto allows us to reward those who help to keep the borough tidy by putting their litter in the bin, as well as working with our dedicated volunteers who collect many bags of litter at a time."

David Landsberg, LitterLotto's founder, said: "The LitterLotto team and I are delighted to welcome Trafford Council to partner with us.

"If you had told me when we launched LitterLotto that in 18 months we would give hundreds of thousands of pounds in prizes and we would get over 10 million pieces of litter binned through our app, I would have been blown away.
