A former footballer from Altrincham who set up a window cleaning business after his playing career ended has been remembered by his family.
Peter Leigh was born on March 4, 1939, and was raised in Altrincham, proving to be a good footballer from a young age.
The defender made two appearances for Manchester City during his early playing days, but it was at Crewe Alexandra were he made his name, playing more than 400 games for the club during his spell which lasted more than a decade.
During his spell at Crewe, Peter was part of a team that won two promotions to the Third Division in both 1963 and 1968.
His son Chris said: "He loved the club and was a loyal and loved member of Crewe.
"He kept in touch with many of the old players and was still wearing his Crewe shirt in his final days.
"He was very proud to have been an integral part of such a great club."
After his playing career ended, Peter used the money he got from his testimonial to set up a window cleaning business, Peter Leigh and Sons, which is still operating today.
Peter worked as a window cleaner well into his 70s before retiring.
He died on February 11 this year aged 84 and is survived by his wife Ann, who he was married to for more than 60 years, as well as two sons, including Chris, a daughter and many grandchildren, who Chris said "were his world".
Peter's funeral was held on Friday, March 8, with Chris saying there was a "huge turnout" and that it went "really well".
