Trafford Council seized American sweets containing banned additives from the headquarters of an importer in the area.
The £10,000-worth of sweets contained banned ingredients Mineral Oil, Red 3 and bleached flour.
Some of the sweets were also missing statement warnings in relation to causing hyperactivity in children.
They were set to be sold both locally and nationally but were surrendered by the importer, which was not identified by the council, and destroyed.
A Trafford Council spokesperson said there is to be a day of action this month to target any retailers who are supplying the sweets.
A spokesperson for Trafford Council said: “We received a warning about these sweets being supplied from a premises in the borough and acted quickly and decisively to ensure they were detained and ultimately destroyed.
“The Environmental Health Team will be carrying out a day of action in early April to target smaller retailers, who are stocking these products.
"Food business operators are asked to be cautious when stocking imported food to ensure that the labelling and composition of the food complies with UK legislation.”
